Best Facial Before an Event: When Should You Book?

The right treatment for your skin isn't always the right treatment for your timeline. Here's how to think about both together, whether you're planning for a wedding, a big birthday, a holiday, or a photoshoot.

The short answer

There's no single "best" pre-event facial, because the right choice depends on how much time you actually have, not just what you'd like to achieve. Gentle, surface-level treatments can be booked close to an event. Anything that stimulates deeper change, including microneedling, most peels, and HIFU, needs real time to settle and show its result. The honest starting point is your event date, not a treatment name.

Before you plan

A few terms worth knowing before you plan

A few terms that come up throughout this guide, so the treatment cards and timeline make sense as you go.

The period after a treatment during which visible side effects, such as redness, sensitivity, or peeling, are settling.

The skin's own repair response, triggered by controlled micro-injury, which several treatments including microneedling rely on.

A peel that removes only the outermost layer of skin, generally involving minimal downtime, as distinct from medium and deep peels which penetrate further and need longer recovery.

A treatment using fine needles to create controlled micro-channels in the skin, prompting its own repair and collagen response over time.

A treatment approach combining a selected peel, a matched serum, and targeted light therapy, chosen for a specific skin concern.

The core idea

Why timing matters as much as the treatment itself

Most treatments that genuinely improve your skin work by prompting a response, some redness, some sensitivity, sometimes visible peeling, before the improvement appears. That's normal, and it's part of how the treatment actually works, but it means something that would suit you perfectly with two months' notice might be the wrong choice with four days left. Planning around your event, whether that's a wedding, a milestone birthday, a holiday, or a photoshoot, rather than picking a treatment first and hoping the timing works out, is the difference between looking your best on the day and spending it dealing with something you didn't expect.

Six ways to think about it

Explore your options

Opening a card shows what it does, what you might notice by your event, and when Georgina would likely advise a different approach.

What it doesIf your event is close, this is often one of the treatments I'll consider, since it works on surface smoothness and glow without asking your skin to go through a deeper repair process.
What you might notice by your eventSmoother-feeling skin and better makeup application, generally within a day or two.
Who might need to waitSkin that's currently irritated or actively broken out. I'll still check this first.
What assessment decidesWhether it's the right fit for your skin that day.
What it doesCreates controlled micro-channels using an adjustable-depth device, prompting the skin's own collagen response over time. Depending on assessment, this may be enhanced with a topical PDRN formulation or a professional exosome formulation as part of a more advanced microneedling protocol.
What you might notice by your eventThis depends heavily on how far out your event is. Visible redness typically settles within a few days, but the fuller textural improvement continues for weeks afterward, and the same timeline applies whether or not an advanced topical element is included.
Who might need to waitAnyone within roughly two weeks of their event, or trying it for the first time close to a date.
What assessment decidesWhether standard or advanced microneedling suits your goal, and how much of a head start your timeline genuinely allows.

What it doesA peel-based resurfacing treatment with a nano-infusion stage.
What you might notice by your eventBecause it's still an active, peel-based treatment, I prefer to leave enough time before an important event for the skin to settle, rather than treating it as a last-minute glow facial.
Who might need to waitAnyone whose skin isn't currently settled.
What assessment decidesWhether this specific treatment, versus another option, suits your skin and your timeline.
Result shown: BioRePeelBefore and after BioRePeel Resurfacing, a client's cheek in profile showing reduced redness and more even skin tone.
BioRePeel before and after. Individual results vary.
What it doesKRX Green Sea Peel is a professional spicule treatment rather than a traditional acid peel. It uses microscopic structures derived from sea sponge, which are massaged into the skin to create controlled superficial microchannels and stimulate a renewal response. There is no microneedling device or needle cartridge involved.
What you might notice by your eventThis is not a treatment I would treat as a last-minute glow facial. The skin can feel sensitive after treatment and may go through dryness or visible peeling as it renews, so I would want enough time for the skin to settle before an important event.
Who might need to waitAnyone whose skin is currently irritated, inflamed, sunburned or otherwise compromised, and anyone too close to an important date to comfortably allow for visible recovery.
What assessment decidesWhether this level of resurfacing is appropriate for your skin, how intensive the protocol should be, and whether a gentler treatment would be more sensible for your timeline.

Result shown: KRX Green Sea PeelBefore and after KRX Green Sea Peel, a client's cheek in profile showing softened pigmentation and smoother, more even skin texture.
KRX Green Sea Peel before and after. Individual results vary.
What it doesA concern-matched combination without microneedling, PDRN or exosomes.
What you might notice by your eventTiming depends on the specific peel used within the protocol, so this is confirmed at assessment rather than assumed.
Who might need to waitThe same peel-related considerations as any professional peel apply.
What assessment decidesWhether this is a better fit than a facial built around microneedling, given your concern and timeline.
What it doesUses focused ultrasound at multiple depths to support the skin's own collagen response over time.
What you might notice by your eventThis depends almost entirely on how far out your event is. HIFU's most visible result typically develops around two to three months after treatment.
Who might need to waitAnyone expecting a fast result should reconsider whether HIFU is the right treatment for this particular event.
What assessment decidesWhether HIFU is appropriate at all, and when relative to your event it should happen.
Skin quality, planned ahead

What about Profhilo, polynucleotides and skin boosters before an event?

These can be genuinely useful pre-event skin-quality treatments when there's enough lead time, but they aren't interchangeable, and their course structures differ. Profhilo works on hydration, elasticity and overall skin quality, and is commonly planned as 2 sessions 4 weeks apart. Polynucleotides are a regenerative skin-quality treatment, typically planned as a course of 3 sessions, 2 to 4 weeks apart, with results building gradually. Skin boosters with Seventy Hyal 2000 are hydration and radiance focused, commonly a course of 2 to 3 sessions around 4 weeks apart, with the exact plan depending on the product used and confirmed at assessment.

The closer the event gets, the less keen I am to introduce a completely new injectable treatment, where swelling, bruising or your individual response is unknown. With enough notice, though, a properly planned course can be one of the better ways to arrive with genuinely better skin quality.

The closer window

Around one month, and what actually changes closer than that

A month is real time to work with, particularly if you already know your skin and how it responds. If your skin is settled and you're three to four weeks out, Dermapen 4 microneedling can reasonably be considered early in that window, giving the visible recovery time to pass and the gradual improvement a chance to begin. The fuller result still continues well beyond a month, so think of it as a head start, not a finished result by the date.

Once you're inside two weeks, I generally wouldn't introduce microneedling for the first time before an important event. If you're trying something new, if your skin is currently reactive, or your event is closer than that, a gentler, more considered facial usually serves you better. Dermaplaning sits in a kinder spot on this scale: if your event is close, it's often one of the treatments I'll consider, since it works on surface smoothness and glow without asking your skin to go through a deeper repair process. I'll still check your skin first, particularly if it's irritated, inflamed or sensitised.

Nobody can promise flawless skin or guaranteed makeup-ready results on a fixed day. A considered plan can stack the odds properly in your favour.

Beyond the calendar

What actually affects the decision, beyond the calendar

Whether you've had a treatment before and know how your skin responds changes what's sensible close to an event. Skin that's currently reactive, sensitised, or dealing with an active breakout needs a gentler approach than skin that's settled. Recent sun exposure matters too, particularly for peels, and it's worth factoring in if your event involves travel or time outdoors beforehand. It's also worth being honest with yourself about what you actually want: a surface polish for the day is a different goal from longer-term improvement, and the two don't always call for the same treatment or timeline.

Making the call

How to actually decide

If you're unsure what fits your date, send a photo and tell me when your event is. It's a genuinely useful way to start the conversation, though it can't replace an in-person look at your skin, and it can't provide a diagnosis. Where your history, sensitivity, or a more advanced treatment needs proper assessment, a Personalised Skin Consultation is the stronger option, the same consultation already in place across the site, not a new offer created for this article. Depending on what your skin needs, this may lead toward a single treatment or a wider bespoke skin plan built around your event and beyond it.
