Profhilo is technically a type of skin booster, but it behaves differently to most others. Standard boosters like Seventy Hyal or Skinvive hydrate quickly, results look good fast but fade faster too. Profhilo uses a much higher concentration of stabilised hyaluronic acid (64mg in 2ml) that triggers genuine collagen and elastin production through bio-remodelling. If your concern is skin laxity or crepey texture, Profhilo is the stronger choice. For a quick hydration top-up before an event, a standard skin booster may suit you better.
WhatsApp for an honest assessmentIf you have searched "Profhilo vs skin boosters," you have probably noticed something confusing. Every clinic markets it differently. Some list Profhilo under their "skin booster" menu. Others treat it as a completely separate category. Both are technically correct, which is exactly why it is confusing.
I am Georgina Sookias, a Clinical Aesthetician trained to Ofqual Level 4 and 5, based in Fulham SW6. Here is the honest, clinical answer, without the marketing spin.
Skin booster is an umbrella term. It covers any injectable treatment designed to improve skin quality rather than add volume or shape. This includes:
All of these are injected into the skin rather than under it. None of them are designed to plump lips or fill lines the way traditional dermal filler does.
Where they differ enormously is in concentration, technique and how long the effect actually lasts. Some are designed primarily for hydration, while others focus on longer-term skin quality through collagen stimulation. That is why comparing them purely by price or brand name can be misleading.
The clearest way to understand the difference is by mechanism. Tap either card below for the full clinical explanation.
Profhilo does not just hydrate. It triggers your skin’s own collagen and elastin production through bio-remodelling.
Profhilo contains 64mg of hyaluronic acid in just 2ml, using a patented technology (NAHYCO) that combines high and low molecular weight HA in a stabilised form. This is one of the highest concentrations of any injectable HA product available in the UK.
Rather than sitting in one place, Profhilo spreads through the tissue after injection. This is what triggers the bio-remodelling effect: genuine stimulation of collagen and elastin production, not just short-term water retention.
This is why Profhilo is typically injected at just five precise points per side of the face (known as the BAP technique), rather than being spread across many small injection points the way standard skin boosters are.
Standard skin boosters hydrate fast, but the effect is shorter lived.
Seventy Hyal and similar products use a lower concentration of hyaluronic acid, designed primarily to hydrate the skin\u2019s extracellular matrix quickly. This gives visible glow and plumpness fast, often within days.
What they generally do not do is trigger the same level of long-term collagen remodelling that has been demonstrated with Profhilo. The improvement is real, but it tends to fade faster and needs more frequent top-ups to maintain.
There isn't a single "best" skin booster. The right treatment depends on what your skin is actually trying to achieve.

These are genuine client results, shared with full consent. Notice the improvement is in skin quality, hydration and firmness, a fresher version of the same face, rather than a change in shape or volume.

No laxity concerns, just wanted brightness and hydration back. Recommended a standard skin booster course rather than Profhilo, since her skin did not need remodelling yet.
A classic Profhilo case. Two sessions, four weeks apart, with visible tightening by week six.
Combined Profhilo with polynucleotides across a longer plan, sequenced rather than done together, for both hydration and deeper regenerative support.
Honesty matters more to me than a sale. I would not recommend Profhilo if:
If any of these sound like you, I will say so in your consultation rather than sell you the more expensive option anyway. You can read more about my approach in whether Profhilo really works, or see what is normal after treatment in my honest guide to Profhilo side effects and when to worry.
“Profhilo is a filler.”
No. It does not add volume or shape. It hydrates and remodels the skin from within.
“All skin boosters work the same way.”
No. Concentration, technique and mechanism all vary significantly between products.
“More injection points means better results.”
No. Profhilo uses fewer, more precise points than most standard skin boosters, and still achieves a stronger structural effect.
If your main concern is acne scarring, deep textural damage or genuine cellular regeneration rather than hydration and laxity, polynucleotides may be a better starting point than Profhilo.
Polynucleotides use purified DNA fragments to directly stimulate fibroblast activity and repair, which is a different mechanism to Profhilo’s HA-based bio-remodelling. Some clients benefit from both, sequenced across a treatment plan rather than combined in one session.
Read the full polynucleotides vs Profhilo comparison for a deeper breakdown, or see how results build over time in the Profhilo timeline.
If someone asks me which is "better," my answer is always the same: neither. The better treatment is the one that matches what your skin actually needs.
That is why I always assess the skin first, rather than recommending the same injectable to everyone. If you want to see how other clients have found the process, you can read our client reviews.
