Profhilo timeline: what to expect week by week (2026)

Quick answer

Profhilo works on a gradual timeline, not an immediate one. Most clients notice improved hydration within the first few days. Firmness and elasticity develop over the following weeks as collagen and elastin production increases. Peak results typically appear four to six weeks after your second session, which is usually performed four weeks after your first. The full effect takes around ten weeks from starting treatment.

Why the timeline matters

Profhilo is one of the most misunderstood treatments in aesthetics, not because it doesn’t work, but because people check too early and conclude it hasn’t. If you look in the mirror the day after your first session and expect a changed face, you will be disappointed. That is not when Profhilo does its best work.

Understanding the real timeline is the difference between a client who feels let down and a client who is genuinely thrilled, even when both received exactly the same treatment with the same outcome.

If you are still deciding whether Profhilo is right for you, my guide on whether Profhilo really works covers the full evidence. If you are weighing it against a simpler hydration treatment, my Profhilo vs skin boosters comparison explains which suits which concern.

The full Profhilo timeline

🟢 Expected·🟡 Normal, worth noting·🔴 Contact us
What you may notice
🟢 Small bumps at injection points, mild redness.🟡 Minor bruising depending on skin and medications.🔴 Anything that worsens rather than improves after 48 hours.
What's happening biologically

The hyaluronic acid has been placed and will start to spread through the dermis over the next 24 to 48 hours. The bumps indicate correct placement, not product sitting permanently.

Realistic expectations

Redness, small lumps, mild tenderness and some bruising are all normal and temporary.

What you may notice
🟢 Improved glow and slightly smoother texture.🟡 Not seeing firming or lifting yet is completely expected this early.
What's happening biologically

HA spreads through the dermis and begins attracting and retaining water. Fibroblast activation is beginning, but collagen and elastin production is still in very early stages.

Realistic expectations

Skin often feels softer, smoother and "more itself", nourished rather than treated.

What you may notice
🟢 Continued improvement in hydration and quality.🟡 Early firmness varies by age, baseline and individual response.
What's happening biologically

Fibroblasts are producing new collagen and elastin in response to the bio-remodelling stimulus. The HA gradually metabolises while the structural proteins it triggered keep building.

Realistic expectations

Book your second session for four weeks after the first. The timing matters and should not be pushed later without clinical reason.

What you may notice
🟢 Skin already looking better than baseline.🟡 Same temporary effects as session 1, bumps that flatten in 24 to 48 hours, possible redness or bruising.
What's happening biologically

The second injection reactivates the bio-remodelling process and compounds the effect of the first session. The two-session protocol reflects how the treatment is designed to work.

Realistic expectations

Expect the same immediate, temporary reactions as after your first session.

What you may notice
🟢 A more lifted appearance around cheeks and jawline, noticeably improved texture, skin that looks genuinely refreshed. Makeup sits differently.
What's happening biologically

Collagen and elastin production is at its most active in this window. The skin’s structural scaffolding is being rebuilt from within as the bio-remodelling response peaks.

Realistic expectations

Skin looks better with less, refreshed rather than superficially treated.

What you may notice
🟢 Peak firmness, elasticity and radiance. This is the best time to take "after" photos to compare against your pre-treatment baseline.
What's happening biologically

Dermal density has improved, skin thickness has increased slightly, and the bio-remodelling process has reached its full effect.

Realistic expectations

This is the true result, not how you looked immediately after treatment.

What you may notice
🟢 Results hold, then soften gradually.🟡 A maintenance session at 6 to 9 months sustains and builds on results.
What's happening biologically

The HA has largely metabolised by around three months. The collagen and elastin produced persist somewhat longer, but without reinforcement they too begin to diminish.

Realistic expectations

Results are cumulative, so regular maintenance leads to progressive improvement rather than returning to baseline.

Results are not always linear

One thing that surprises many clients is that Profhilo doesn’t improve in a perfectly straight line.

Some people notice a healthy glow within a few days, then feel as though nothing changes for a couple of weeks before suddenly seeing firmer, healthier-looking skin. This temporary plateau is completely normal and doesn’t mean the treatment has stopped working. Collagen and elastin are produced gradually, and everyone’s biology responds at a slightly different pace.

If you’re at week three and feeling uncertain, you’re almost certainly in the middle of that biology, not at the end of it.

Where you'll notice results first

Because Profhilo spreads through the dermis rather than sitting in one spot, results appear across the whole treatment area. That said, most clients tend to notice changes in these areas first:

Cheeks

Improved density and bounce; skin feels plumper from within.

Under eyes

Reduced crepiness and a more rested quality.

Jawline

Early softening and improved skin firmness.

Neck

Texture and hydration improvement, particularly if treated.

How Profhilo compares: when will you see results?

TreatmentFirst resultsPeak resultsBest for
ProfhiloWeek 1 (hydration & glow)8 to 10 weeksHydration & skin quality
Dermal fillerImmediately, same dayImmediatelyVolume & structure
Polynucleotides2 to 4 weeks2 to 3 monthsRepair & regeneration
HIFU6 to 8 weeks3 monthsLaxity & lifting
Microneedling1 to 2 weeks4 to 6 weeksTexture & scarring

The key difference is that Profhilo works with your own biology. Filler gives an immediate result because it adds external structure. Profhilo’s result is your own skin, rebuilt, and that takes longer and looks more natural. If your concern is repair or tissue regeneration, my guide to polynucleotides covers how that treatment compares.

Common Profhilo timeline myths

“If I don’t see anything after one week, it hasn’t worked.”

The most significant changes develop over weeks, not days. One week post session one is far too early to draw any conclusion.

“One session is enough.”

The two-session protocol is not a sales tactic. The second session builds on the first in a way a single session cannot replicate. Clinical evidence is based on the two-session course.

“Results stop once the product disappears.”

The HA metabolises over a few months, but the collagen and elastin it triggered continue to exist in the skin for longer. The result does not stop the moment the HA is gone.

Profhilo does not produce its result from the hyaluronic acid itself sitting in the skin. It produces its result from the skin’s own response, specifically the collagen and elastin it triggers. Those structural proteins take weeks to build. You are not waiting for the injected product to show; you are waiting for your own skin to regenerate. Many clients forget how their skin looked before treatment because the changes happen gradually, which is why comparing photographs is far more reliable than memory.

What if I don't see results?

If you reach week ten post session two and genuinely see no improvement, there are a few possible explanations worth considering honestly.

Your expectations may not have matched what Profhilo does. If your primary concern is jowls or significant laxity, Profhilo was unlikely to produce the structural change you hoped for. That is a mismatch between treatment and goal, and HIFU or another structural treatment may suit better.

You may have checked too early. At week three post session one, you have not yet reached the period when Profhilo works best.

Individual variation is real. Skin baseline, age, lifestyle factors and the body’s collagen response all influence results.

The treatment may have been administered incorrectly. Proper BAP technique placement matters. See my guide on what can go wrong with Profhilo for more on this.

Why some people think Profhilo didn’t work

This is one of the most honest conversations I have in clinic, and it’s worth addressing directly.

They expected lifting, not hydration

Profhilo improves skin quality. It does not lift significant jowls or restore volume. That is the wrong tool for the job, not a failed treatment.

They expected filler-style results

Filler produces an immediate, structural change. Profhilo produces a gradual improvement in how skin feels and behaves. Genuinely different treatments.

They checked too early

At week three post session one, the treatment is still building. Judging it now is like deciding a cake hasn’t baked after ten minutes.

They never took before photos

When changes happen gradually they are easy to miss. Photographs are a far more reliable measure than memory.

They had the wrong indication

Profhilo suits skin quality, hydration and early laxity, not significant structural lifting or volume loss. Matching treatment to concern is everything.

If any of these resonate, a consultation is worth having before you write it off entirely.
